2008 Mercury Awards winner in the Logistics Leader category DHL has recommended participation in this year's awards to the industry as way to showcase innovation.
DHL took out the 2008 award for a supply chain management solution which required regular deliveries to some 300 retail convenience stores across the country.
One of the keys to the DHL solution was to introduce roll cages for the transportation of goods. DHL estimates that the use of roll cages ahead of wrapped pallets could eliminate the use of some 2,500 kms of plastic shrink-wrap every year.
Senior vice president for DHL Global Forwarding Tony Boll accepted the award on behalf of the company. He says DHL’s win means essential recognition for the company both from the industry and from DHL customers.
“An award such as this demonstrates that our offering exceeds our customers’ expectations and that we occupy an industry leading position, which as a global organisation, we wish to achieve.
"It also gives all our hard working employees a big pat on the back and a sense of confidence that they’re working for a company with a great future.”
According to Boll, DHL’s competitive edge lies in its position as a one-stop supplier of logistics services.
“Our key differentiator is that our offering spans all modes of transport, on a global basis,” he says. Customers want innovation from people that can cross- share learnings from one industry to another and improve their position as a result.”
Boll believes industry awards programs provide a beacon for the industry- an opportunity to do better and showcase innovation in their respective fields of expertise.
“Making the awards a platform for a company’s excellence contributes to its competitive edge by providing the desire and the motivation to go further and further. In the end it’s innovation that makes good companies great.”
"Not winning does not necessarily mean you don’t have a winning solution because ultimately it’s the continued development and promotion of competitive edge that the industry needs.”
“I’d like to extend my thanks once again to all the employees of DHL across Australia as this award was really theirs,” Boll adds.
