Empty backloads could become a thing of the past for transport operators thanks to an innovative new website designed to boost efficiency and eliminate empty running time where possible.
Freightmatch connects transport operators with businesses or individuals moving freight within Australia through an easy-to-use online system complimented with complete customer service.
Launched last month, Freightmatch lists freight and trucks which can be quickly searched by both transport operators and those requiring a freight service.
The website allows users to register and list their available freight or transport service free of charge. Transport operators are only charged a small matching fee upon receiving work from Freightmatch.
The website has already built a large transport network Australia wide with hundreds of users registered within the first few weeks of operation as businesses look to ease the burden of uncertain economic times by cutting costs and increasing efficiency.
Freightmatch is the brainchild of young entrepreneur Hugh McDougall, who recognised the problem and cost associated with empty backloads while working on his family farm in Gippsland.
“Running a truck to transport stock and produce on the farm, I quickly discovered the difficulty in filling the truck for the return journey,” McDougall says.
“I figured a service that eliminates this problem could be valuable to both small operators such as ourselves, right through to large transport companies running hundreds of services every day.”
“The more individuals and businesses we can attract to the site, the more effective it will be in finding suitable transport for people with freight to move and improving efficiency for transport operators.”
After eight months planning the launch of Freightmatch, McDougall has understood the importance of establishing a customer service to better assist those without computer access or requiring further information.
The website details the services on offer, routes of operation and details such as accreditation and insurance.
“Since its launch we’ve had an overwhelming positive response with a steadily increasing stream of listings and visitors to the site,” McDougall says.
“Our goal is to put Freightmatch front of mind with anyone seeking freight services or looking to fill a truck, and we believe we are on the right track to achieving that.”
