A volunteer program aimed at the placement of supply chain professionals in a project within developing countries is now underway, following the signing of an MOU between the Logistics Association of Australia (LAA Ltd) and the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative (CHAI).
The Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative (CHAI), which works with governments and other partners to increase the availability of high-quality AIDS care and treatment for people in need, recently partnered with the LAA Ltd in developing a volunteer program to provide supply chain management technical support to countries in need.
The program will actively seek to facilitate the placement of supply chain practitioners in a job or project in developing countries, where CHAI has indentified a need for training and development in a number of supply chain and logistics related areas.
The Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative was launched in 2002 using a business-based and strategic approach to tackle the most significant barriers to HIV/AIDS care and treatment.
CHAI achieves its mission by lowering the costs of treatment, providing strategic and targeted technical assistance where it is most needed, and establishing major initiatives to enable widespread access to HIV-related care.
CHAI has a staff of more than 700 people, with teams working on the ground side by side with 22 governments’ worldwide.
“The Logistics Association of Australia is proud to be working with the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative to present this opportunity for professional development of individual supply chain practitioners; as well as to assist Australian corporations to support their corporate social responsibility programmes,” says Conor O’Malley, LAA Program Convenor.
Welcoming this opportunity to LAA members, Maeve Magner, Supply Chain Director of CHAI added, “We support the LAA in offering this opportunity to its members. This is a very unique opportunity for both individuals and corporations to build supply chain capacity in less developed countries.
"I encourage you to avail of this opportunity as it not only has a long term and broader impact for these countries, but also for yourselves in terms of personnel development and the satisfaction of being able to give back to those most in need.”
CHAI is seeking highly motivated individuals with a strong record of leadership and analytical capabilities. Since these positions involve working within the Ministry of Health and with implementing partners, candidates must have excellent communications skills and a high degree of self-confidence.
Supply Chain area of expertise is required across the board, from New Product Introduction, Planning, Procurement, Warehousing, Order Management/Fulfillment, to Distribution, and Transportation, along with Supply Chain Strategy & Operational Excellence, Product Returns and supporting technologies.
Volunteers can provide their time, from two weeks to up to several months, depending on the country and project facilitated.
Areas where CHAI currently works, and may have a need for volunteers include: Cambodia, India, Indonesia PNG, Ethiopia, Liberia, Rwanda, Swaziland, Togo, Caribbean, Bahamas, the Dominican Republic, and Trinidad and Tobago.
All costs associated with travel requirements will be sponsored by the supporting companies or the individual themselves. The facilitation and administration services provided by the Logistics Association of Australia are free of charge.
